Analogue/Digital Recording Studio in East London.

Combining the pinnacle in analogue recording, with the ease of the digital world, in the old Liquorice All-Sorts factory in London’s trendy docklands, din accounts for every recording studio need.

din was established in 2005, when Julian Simmons left his Soho studio (where he had been working for film director Tony Kaye) for the metropolis of East London.  Since then din has established a reputation for itself as a top class and highly versatile recording facility capable of delivering results on a par with the most well known recording studios in London at a fraction of the budget.

Artists/Projects recorded at din include The Shutes, Beverley Knight, Paul Cook & The Chronicles, Ed Sheeran, The Special Ks, Mamas Gun, Albert Lee, Midlake, The Magnets, Guillemots, Goldheart Assembly, The Brute Chorus, Animal Kingdom…

The Studios:

Studio 1-
The recording space comprises a large live room (where the surfaces can be varied), vocal booth/amp room, and various other effects spaces in the stairwells and corridors for much livelier recording. There are also two floor-to-ceiling baffles for cutting the room up, and an upright piano. The studio space also benefits from daylight through the control room windows.

Studio 2 -
Just down the corridor from studio 1, is often used as a Protools edit suite, and provides storage for literally hundreds of instruments, from 1950′s Danelectro guitars, to 70′s analogue keyboards.

Equipment:

din has been setup with the very best of both the Analogue and Digital worlds in mind. The core of the recording system is the industry standard 24 I/O Protools rig.

The 1970′s birthed some of the finest pro-audio gear the world has ever seen; no expense was spared in parts and build method, and much of our front end gear is from that period. Names like API, Neve, Telefunken, Universal Audio, Focusrite should need no introduction.

Location & Local Area:

din is on the 2nd floor of the old Liquourice All-Sorts factory in Limehouse. It is tucked away privately at the back of the building, with it’s own entrance. Access for equipment is provided through a goods lift that runs down to street level. The large control room and lounge boast large windows and views across London’s Docklands. There is also a kitchenette in the lounge area, and plenty of fresh coffee is served everyday.

The local area hosts an assortment of great restaurants and pubs, (including our favourite, The Grapes) and the Thames is just 5 minutes walk away. There are also many convenience stores nearby, not to mention the fantastic Troxy music venue on Commercial Road, host to many of London’s hottest shows. Accommodation can be found within 1 minutes walk of the studio in the forms of B+B, hostels, and a Holiday Inn Express, on the Highway.

The studio is located 2 minutes from Limehouse Station, on the DLR with access to central London in 15 minutes. There are also various bus routes that service the area, and an overland rail station that runs in and out of Liverpool Street, and out east to Essex. Shadwell Station is 10 minutes walk away, on both the DLR and the brand new London Overground line that runs from Highbury & Islington and Dalston Junction, down to Crystal Palace and West Croydon.
